Small Wedding in Antigua Guatemala /// Gosh, where has the time gone? It seems like forever since we last published a wedding on our website, we’ve been meaning to get more of our work out there and show people what Guatemala has to offer. And when it came to deciding which wedding to publish, we wanted to show a wedding that was slightly out of the norm, something that had a story to tell, and this wedding does not disappoint. A small wedding in Antigua Guatemala is a unique experience for couples and their guests, they are all always blown away by what the town has to offer.
Marjorie and Rashid both came down to Guatemala at the beginning of their budding relationship, as a short vacation away from the US. Rashid is a bartender specialized in mezcals, so an obvious stop was the ever-famous Café No Sé. The cafe serves their home-brand mezcals in a dark, cave-like setting, typically with bluegrass playing in the background. The walls are covered in signatures and writings by No Se’s many visitors over the years, so the new couple decided to add their mark in a hidden spot behind a narrow door close to the bar’s entrance. Little did this couple know, they would be returning a couple of years later to add to their signature at that very same bar, with some of their family and friends to bear witness this time.
Although the wedding day was somewhat cloudy and it rained off and on throughout the day, the spirit of these two never faltered. Their smiles never faded as they both got ready in the gorgeous Pensativo House Hotel, the former dwellings of an ex-military general. The location of the ceremony took place next door at Mesón Panza Verde, in the small art gallery. The couple had planned to get married on the terrace, but they had to move it inside. Happy tears streamed down smiling faces as Marjorie and Rashid committed themselves to each other, surrounded by love and support from their friends and family.
After a few drinks during the cocktail hour on the rooftop of Panza Verde, the group made their wedding again to Café No Sé, ready to celebrate the night away in one of the private bars in the back of the bar. There were more happy tears, heartfelt toasts, and many shots of mezcal as the night drew on. The night was complete, however, once the newly married couple made their way to that same narrow doorway to make an addition to the signatures they left years before.
