Planning a proposal in Antigua Guatemala from abroad is one thing, but planning a proposal from abroad during a global pandemic takes a particularly dedicated and patient partner. Johnny and Allyson are both from the DC area in the US, and a marriage proposal had been a long time in the works. Johnny contacted us months in advance, and even when the waves of the coronavirus left many things uncertain, he remained steadfast and confident in the weeks leading up to the big moment.
Johnny told Allyson to get dressed up for a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant. It was a hot day, but Johnny was told to wear a microphone inside his jacket so our good friend Rodrigo Zadro could capture the sound and make a beautiful proposal video that you can find here. Allyson was slightly suspicious as to why Johnny wouldn’t just wear a nice shirt to dinner, rather than face the heat in a suit jacket. But her suspicions subsided as Johnny changed the subject and they made their way to “dinner.”
The moment of Johnny’s proposal in Antigua Guatemala came when they walked through the doors of Casa de La Ruina, just on the edge of town. As they entered, Allyson quickly realized this was no restaurant. They walked around the corner and into the ruins, she suddenly became aware of what was about to happen. As this lovely couple stood in front of a gorgeous altar designed by Bea from Addy Florales, Johnny poured his heart out to Allyson and eventually got down on one knee. We will let you scroll through the photos to find out what her answer was.
The nerves and the tears washed away as they shared their first embrace as fiances. The next few hours were spent on a romantic stroll and photo session around the streets of Antigua. After our goodbyes, they smiled and cuddled as they walked down the sidewalk towards their private celebratory dinner. We love knowing that while these moments we had together were a literal blink of an eye in the timeline of their lives, we were witness to a moment that neither of them will ever forget, a part of a story that will be told for years. Thank you Johnny & Allyson for having us capture this incredible day and we wish you both the absolute best in your marriage moving forward.
