Engagement Photos at Ruins of La Recoleccion in Antigua // This wedding season has flown by so fast! Can’t believe that we are only one month away from the end of the high season. This year has been one of our busiest yet, we can’t believe how many weddings we had the pleasure to photograph this year. When we think back over the last couple of months everything seems like a blur of moments and weddings that sometimes blend together. It has been so nice to look back at the photographs that we have taken, thinking about some of the incredible couples we got to work with.
Carlos & Sara were definitely one of those couples. A few days before their wedding day, we met them in person for the first time and got a chance to photograph their engagement session in the ruins of La Recoleccion in Antigua, Guatemala. We always recommend doing a session of photos before your big day. It helps familiarize you with being in front of the camera, as well as makes you feel more comfortable with your photographer and how they work. Carlos and Sara both wanted some photos in some ruins as well as around Antigua, and the afternoon was perfect.
We started off shooting their engagement photos at Ruins of La Recoleccion in Antigua, Guatemala, one of our favorite places to shoot. This backdrop is so stunning and has such an interesting history. The actual church, built in the 17th Century, was only functioning as a church for 10 years, before it was destroyed by an earthquake. Huge pieces from the ceiling and walls lay strewn around the grounds, creating an epic look as a backdrop for engagement photos. After the ruins we headed up to Cerro De La Cruz, a gorgeous lookout that gives an amazing sunset view from above of Antigua. With a slight overcast, we were able to get some amazing sunset photos of these two for their engagement session.
We finished these engagement photos at Ruins of La Recoleccion in Antigua with a walk around the streets of Antigua, capturing the couple in front of the colorful walls and cobblestone streets. Our excitement for their big day grew as the last light of the day faded and their wedding day became one day closer. We hope to share their wedding photos soon, so keep an eye out again for these two!
